The Goodness of God in the Land of the Living
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good,
Blessed is the man who trusts
in Him!”
Psalm 34:8
What is the goodness of God? Is it simply finding happiness here on earth; a
nice family, career, a great marriage, success, etc.? Many of us strive for
these things in our lives. It’s not wrong to desire these things, however is this all God
truly intended for us? So, this brings us back to the question again, “What
is the goodness of God?”
When God created Adam and Eve in the
Garden of Eden. He created male and female in His image. No other creature on
earth but humanity, was made in the likeness of God. He created man to have
perfect union with Him, perfect relationship. Later in the story (Genesis 3) Adam and Eve fall away from this perfect union by disobeying God’s command. And because of their disobedience, man fell from Grace. Thus each of us have been born into a life of sin, separated from God. The bible says that the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)
While the pleasures and successes of this life bring us happiness here on earth, we must look to the Creator who has given us life and has made a way for us to have eternal life. The same breath that God breathed into Adam, breathes in you and me and His desire is that we would seek a life in Him. God, in the richness of His Mercy, Grace and infinite Love, has reconciled us back to perfect union with Him, through the precious sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ on the cross. That is if we choose to receive Christ as our Lord and Savior. Each of us must choose to surrender to Him and choose life. It is the goodness of God that leads us to a
true heart of repentance that we may trust and believe in Him, whose blood was
shed for each of us. (Romans 2:4) Oh, how precious is the blood of Christ!
In Matthew 5:6 Jesus said,"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." It is in Christ alone that we
can find this sweet perfect union with our Creator and find the fullness of life here on earth.
In this relationship, we may partake and
eat of the fruit in the land of the living. Let us savor the flavor of a life
hidden in Christ. The temporary things of this world shall soon fade away. But
in Christ, we will taste and see the goodness of God. It is a fruit
that does not perish but rather eternally satisfying.
Let us seek the goodness of God in
the land of the living, let us seek Christ.
“The Lord upholds
all who fall,
And raises up all who are bowed
down.
The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
And You give them their food in due season.
You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous
in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
The Lord is near
to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire
of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save
them.”
Psalm 145:14-19
